Education & Interests
Chip (he/him/his) is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He also has Chickasaw and Cherokee heritage. Chip received his bachelor's degree from Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma, and his master's degree in guidance counseling, with a Native American counseling emphasis, at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Chip has dedicated his entire career to Native American student success. He started as a middle school science teacher in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, later became a guidance counselor in the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, and then became the American Indian student services coordinator, multicultural student services coordinator, and associate professor of First Nations studies at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He made his first connection with UMN Morris as visiting director of multi-ethnic student programming in 2006–07.
Chip is very excited to continue to grow in his Native American student success journey as the director of NASS. His primary goal is to help build and become a part of a team that creates long term relationships with Native American students that continues and endures through graduation and beyond as our students become proud UMN Morris alumni.
